The song was written during the post disco era so it still has elements of disco in it. The track also gives you funk vibes. “Turn Around” isn’t really a track that will put you on the dance floor, but you can still nod your head to it. Heatwave do a great job playing the instruments. They manage not to sound arrogant and cocky while they are talking about their music. Their music is hot so they aren’t lying about that. The band’s opinion about their music is subjective, but they are telling the truth. The song will give you Earth, Wind & Fire vibes. “Where Did I Go Wrong” is on the same level as the type of jams that Blue Magic, the Stylistics, the Moments, the Manhattans and other groups like them would have recorded. The song has a doo wop style to it. The song was recorded in the 80s, but it sounds older than that. The music sounds like it belongs in a love song and not a song about heartbreak.
