Too Hot to Handle was released in 1976. It peaked at number five on the r&b charts and number 11 on the Billboard 200 charts. The album features the singles “Too Hot to Handle,” “Boogie Nights” and “Always and Forever.” The album sold over one million copies. Central Heating came out in 1977. It peaked at number two on the r&b charts and number 10 on the Billboard 200 charts. This is the last album Rod Temperton appeared on with the band. He continued to write songs for the band, but he was no longer a member. He became a songwriter.
