She follows her own rules and it works perfectly with her style of music. She covered Weapon of Choice’s song “Nutty Nut-meg Phantasy.”

She kept the chorus of Weapon of Choice’s song the same, but she added her own verses. Macy Gray’s version of the track is faster and has a funkier beat. This is the second song on our list about an abusive relationship. “Hide the Hurt” has a similar theme. This time around, the abuse is about a woman being beaten by her man. The lyrics are raw and meaningful. People who are in abusive relationships need songs like this one to know they aren’t alone. They need to know that there’s nothing to be ashamed of if they feel they can’t get out of a bad relationship. This song has an important message that needs to be discussed.

This was on her debut album so it’s an indicator of what she was able to accomplish as a songwriter. This song was overshadowed by her big hit “I Try,” but it’s an important song.
