The group consists of Eddie Montgomery and Troy Gentry who focuses on traditional country music along with a penchant for being inspired by the great southern rock bands of all time like The Allman Brothers Band, the Marshall Tucker Band, The Charlie Daniels Band and The Outlaws. At times their county music steers close to the new county artists like Brantley Gilbert and Billy Currington while other times they move closer to the styles of  Johnny Cash and Hal Ketchum.

Montgomery Gentry has so far released eleven studio albums starting with their first album release in 1999 entitled Tattoos & Scars up to the more recent album called Outskirts released twenty years later in 2019.The duo have also released close to forty singles throughout their long glorious career.
