If there’s one artist who’s written some of the most painful love songs in classic rock history, it’s Stevie Nicks. Since we all first discovered her in the mid-70s, when she and Lindsey joined Fleetwood Mac, and throughout her solo career, we have been bathed in mystical, enchanting love songs written and performed by an artist unlike any other. Calling them love songs just seems too simple. These are more than just love songs. They are works of art, cinematic adventures filtering through many rivers of emotions. If there was one word we had to pick to describe the love songs of Stevie Nicks, it would probably be spellbinding. Here are 10 that have always left us breathless, and wanting more…..

# 10 – Crystal

We open up our Stevie Nicks love songs list with one of the earliest tracks to feature her presence in rock history. The song was initially released on the duet album Buckingham Nicks, recorded with her then-lover, Lindsey Buckingham. On that 1973 record, Lindsey handled the lead vocal. Two years later, when Fleetwood Mac re-recorded the track for their self-titled 1975 album, Buckingham again sang lead. It wasn’t until the Practical Magic soundtrack in 1998 that Stevie Nicks finally recorded her own lead vocal version. No matter how many times it has been reinterpreted, and regardless of who sang lead, the song endures because of its lyrical beauty, haunting melody, and the undeniable sense of magic Stevie brings to it. This makes it the perfect way to open up our list of Stevie Nicks’ love songs.

# 9 – She Loves Him Still

When Stevie Nicks released her album 24 Karat Gold: Songs from the Vault in 2014, one of the tracks that struck me the most was a song I had never heard before, “She Still Loves Him.” Written by Mark Knopfler and Stevie Nicks, the song can be interpreted in many different ways. To me, in its simplicity, it feels like it’s about someone who may not deserve to be loved, or perhaps is difficult to love, and the incredible power of a woman who loves regardless of the circumstances and never gives up. That’s just my interpretation, but isn’t that what music is all about? Still, it’s her vocal performance, her passion, and her unwavering emotion that really shines through just as it does in every single song she sings. If you’ve never heard this one, make sure to check it out.

# 8 – The Wild Heart

Stevie Nicks’ “Wild Heart” is all about the dangers of love, and no one writes and sings about that pain better than she does. Somehow, through her writing, we feel a little bit better about the same struggles we have faced in our own lives, love gained, love lost, and the battles in between. This is a song I have always turned to when I needed help. I’ve never gone to therapy, and I’ve never seen a psychiatrist or psychologist. Instead, I’ve always relied on songs like this. Artists such as Stevie Nicks, Tom Waits, Bruce Springsteen, and Linda Ronstadt have been my healers, guiding me through the hardest moments. There has always been something uniquely powerful about this one song in particular, something that has given me a sense of relief when I needed it most.

# 7 – If Anyone Falls In Love

And speaking of the “Wild Heart” album, we turn to another sensational track from the album called “If Anyone Falls In Love.” Love songs don’t have to be slow ballads. This just may well be the deepest love song Stevie Nicks has ever written. She is completely in love with this person, whoever it may be, a love deeper than she has ever experienced before. It’s so strong that she nearly doesn’t believe it’s possible, but if it is, this is the one.

# 6 – Dreams

Are break-up songs love songs? When you think about it, it’s pretty much the opposite of what love is all about, as you’re heading out the door. However, that doesn’t mean the love is over in your heart; it’s just not working out, whether it’s your fault or your partner’s. That’s what this one is all about and it’s one of the best ever written.

# 5 – I Sing For The Things

In this song, Stevie Nicks makes it very clear, a point the Beatles made early in their career when they wrote “Can’t Buy Me Love.” That’s what Stevie Nicks is singing about. No matter how successful she is, or whoever you are, you can’t buy love, and that’s what she’s singing about, that’s what she’s singing for. It’s sweet, it’s tender, and so painful. Love don’t come easy, and for many people, it never comes at all.

# 4 – Leather And Lace

Does it get any better than a duet between the enchanting voice of Stevie Nicks and the stunning pipes of Don Henley? Stevie Nicks has recorded some amazing duets in her career. This was one of the best ones. “Leather and Lace” was released on her Bella Donna album. If you don’t have that record, what are you doing?” Go get it now!

# 3 – Beauty And The Beast

The first two Stevie Nicks solo albums will always be our favorites here. As much as I loved Bella Donna, it was the follow-up, Wild Heart, that really takes the number one spot. We all know the story of “Beauty and the Beast,” but Stevie Nicks took the concept and made it her own on this heartbreaking love song. Her vocal performance, along with the mesmerizing, stunning backing vocals, will just leave you breathless.

# 2 -Silver Springs

This is one of those Stevie Nicks songs that Fleetwood Mac fans and Stevie Nicks fans waited too long to hear. This should have been released on the Rumours album, but never made the cut, instead being released as a B-side, which a lot of people never heard. It would gain new life when it was released in 1997 on the live special, and people completely fell in love with this one. It’s all about her and Lindsey, of course. I mean, what songs are not about her and Lindsey? That’s the real question. How did they stand on stage and sing these songs together when they knew it was all about them? That’s an even bigger question.

# 1 – Landslide

How can I not close this list with any other song but “Landslide”? Just think about how many people have covered this song. How many people have said this is their favorite Stevie Nicks song? How many people have said this is their favorite song in general?  There’s a reason for that. Do I have to explain it? This is one that just speaks for itself, and it’s amplified times 10, turned up to 11 if you know what I mean. I’m not talking about volume this time.
