Top 10 Tate McRae Songs

Tate McRae Songs

This Top 10 Tate McRae Songs list presents the best Tate McRae Songs including “You Broke Me First,” “That Way” ” You,” and many more.Calgarian Tate McRae first rose to fame as some thirteen-year-old singer from southern Alberta, Canada after appearing on the American competition series, So You Think You Can Dance. Born in 2003 on Canada Day, this young phenom has already produced one fan-favorite hit after another, using the powerful influence of social media to her advantage, a technique many millennials have been using today as a means to get their name and content out there for the public audience to enjoy.

Not only is McRae a talented singer-songwriter, but has also become an accomplished dancer. Long before earning a name for herself as a chart-hitting vocalist, McRae was trained in various dance styles at an international level and has competed and won in a number of dance-related competitions before embarking full-time on her recording career.

Breakthrough

When the Canadian government issued a nationwide lockdown in April 2020 as a means to curb the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, Tate McRae used this time to her advantage as she recorded second extended play (EP), Too Young to Be Sad, which was then released on March 6, 2021. This, combined with the first EP, All the Things I Never Said, which was released just before the lockdown took place, catapulted her name as one of the most streamed musical artists by the end of 2021. In addition to these two EPs, there is also a studio album scheduled for release during the spring season of 2022 so far titled She’s All I Wanna Be. Tate McRae follows in the steps of many successful Candain music stars like Avril Lavigne, Alanis Morissette, and many others.

Top 10 Tate McRae Songs

#10 – Rubberband

“Rubberband” came as an inspiration when Tate McRae learned about people wearing this as a bracelet around their wrist as a means to get someone’s attention by snapping it against their flesh. Performing it as an electro-pop means to do the same as a song, that became a slow-dance favorite among McRae’s fans. From the EP, Too Young to Be Sad, “Rubberband” became a number ninety-one hit on the Canadian Hot 100 as well as a number sixteen hit on New Zealand’s Heatseeker chart. “Rubberband” beautifully illustrated McRae’s niche as a heartbroken young woman who has to contend with the complexities of a relationship slipping through her fingers and using the rubbery wristband as a means to remind herself of what she once had.

#9 – Slower

During the spring of 2021, “Slower” was a single that peaked at number seventy-four on the Canadian Hot 100 and became a certified gold hit. It was originally written when Tate McRae was fourteen years old but was reluctant at first to release it as she felt it was too awkward at the time. The story of the song was about someone receiving mixed signals from a potential love interest which ultimately led her to move on with her life without him. While at fourteen it may seem awkward, at seventeen and a few more years of life’s experiences, this no longer became the case.

#8 – Lie to Me (featuring Ali Gatie)

On the Canadian Hot 100 in 2020, “Lie to Me” peaked at number seventy-six and later became a certified gold hit. Tate McRae and Ali Gatie laid out a beautiful ballad of a loving relationship gone wrong due to issues revolving around dishonesty and infidelity and how heartbreaking it is to deal with such betrayal.

#7 – One Day

The first single Tate McRae released was “One Day,” which was done so through her social media accounts, namely TikTok and YouTube. The year was 2017 and she was thirteen years old at the time. This gem of a song served as a sign of things to come for a young artist who had yet to burst onto the music scene with her breakthrough single, “You Broke Me First,” in 2020. Although the song didn’t appear on any official music charts it did become certified gold by Music Canada and it remains as one of the best songs to listen to from a young singer who hoped for better days ahead in a world that has become too dark for comfort.

#6 – Stupid

Tate McRae released the single, “Stupid” during the summer of 2019 via social media streaming sites and it was a song that became enough of a fan favorite to become certified platinum by Music Canada and certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). In this lyrical tale, McRae shared the grief of working on a relationship that has proven to be a waste of her time, as well as her love interest.

#5 – Working (featuring Khalid)

The upbeat duet performance of “Working” was Tate McRae and Khalid lyrically expressing a common issue among couples who find their hearts are fonder of each other while apart as opposed to actually being in the same room together and find in order to make their relationship truly pan out is to work together on it. What makes “Working” a fan favorite is it’s a step away from the emotional ballads McRae has been better known for. On the Canadian Hot 100, it was a number forty-seven hit and it peaked as high as number eighty-eight on the US Billboard Hot 100. On the US Mainstream Top 40 “Working” was a number twenty hit and it charted as high as number thirty-six on the US Billboard Adult Top 40.

#4 – That Way

“That Way” was an emotional single that was released in 2021 as a song meant to promote her EP, All the Things I Never Said. This emotional ballad is about Tate McRae performing as a heartbroken victim of feeling strongly about someone who doesn’t share the same interest in her as she does with him. Not only does “That Way’ strike a chord among many fans who’ve likely shared the same experience it was one straight from McRae’s own past as someone who once upon a time had a crush on someone who wanted nothing more from her than friendship.

The song earned international recognition, charting as high as number one on Sweden’s Heatseeker chart, at number fifty-nine in Ireland, and at number eighty-two in the UK. “That Way” also became certified gold in Australia, Canada, and the US. It was also certified silver with the UK’s British Phonographic Industry (BPI).

#3 – You (featuring DJ Regard and Troye Sivian)

The duet, “You,” was a remarkable performance shared between Tate McRae and Troye Sivian. The musical performance came from DJ Regard and was a number one hit on the US Billboard Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart after it was released in the spring of 2021. On the US Billboard Hot 100, it became a number fifty-eight hit and peaked as high as number thirty-eight on the Canadian Hot 100. It also became certified gold with Music Canada. Globally, “You” was at least a top forty hit among the nations of the Czech Republic, Hungary, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Singapore, and the UK. It also became certified gold by the RIAA.

The lyrical tale of lovers who are located many miles apart was a beautifully written ballad about young love being kept apart by circumstances that seemed beyond their control. With the timing of this song released, this really tugged at the heartstrings of couples facing this issue as a reality due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the lockdown measures that were taken that kept loved ones away from each other for extended periods of time.

#2 – She’s All I Wanna Be

As the first single released from Tate McRae’s 2022 album, “She’s All I Wanna Be” has become the young star’s second big hit on the music charts to peak at least within the top forty among most of the official music charts worldwide. On the US Billboard Mainstream Top 40 it peaked as high as number nineteen and was a number forty-nine hit on the US Billboard Hot 100. On the Canadian Hot 100, it was a number eleven hit.

This mix of various pop-style influences from funk to synth saw McRae lyrically admit her jealousy of another woman who seems to have it all has been doing quite a number on her self-confidence level. This was not only a song many fans can relate to but was beautifully performed by a young lady who has been regarded as the future of the pop-rock genre.

#1 – You Broke Me First

Released during the spring of 2020, “You Broke Me First” became a smash hit after gaining immense popularity on the social media platform TikTok. This breakup ballad saw Tate McRae standing her ground to keep the love interest who broke her heart previously at bay as she expressed she did not wish to have her heart broken the second time, at least not by the same person who did it the first time. “You Broke Me First” became McRae’s first single to chart on the US Billboard Hot 100 which peaked as high as number seventeen.

It was a number one hit on the US Billboard Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart and a number four hit on the US Billboard Adult Top 40. For a lady who hadn’t graduated from high school yet, this is quite an accomplishment. From the EP, Too Young to Be Sad, “You Broke Me First” became a number eight hit on the Canadian Hot 100 and was a top ten chart-hitter among the nations of Australia, Belgium, Finland, Ireland, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Norway, Scotland, Singapore, Sweden, and the UK. It has also received multiple platinum certifications with well over twenty million copies of the single either sold or streamed worldwide.
