Cole World: The Sideline Story, J. Cole’s major-label debut, arrived on September 27, 2011, entering the Billboard 200 at number one. Singles including “Work Out,” “Can’t Get Enough,” “Mr. Nice Watch,” and “Nobody’s Perfect” introduced his combination of detailed storytelling, self-produced foundations, and crossover instincts. His second album, Born Sinner, followed in June 2013 and eventually rose to number one after opening behind Kanye West’s Yeezus.

With 2014 Forest Hills Drive, Cole made his clearest statement about artistic independence. Named after his childhood address in Fayetteville, the album arrived in December 2014 without guest appearances and with little conventional advance promotion. “Apparently,” “Wet Dreamz,” “No Role Modelz,” and “Love Yourz” helped turn the record into the central album of his career.

4 Your Eyez Only opened at number one in December 2016 and placed all ten of its songs inside the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100. KOD followed in April 2018, pairing a tightly focused examination of addiction and escapism with one of Cole’s biggest chart weeks. “ATM,” “Kevin’s Heart,” and the title track simultaneously debuted in the Hot 100’s top ten.

The Off-Season arrived in May 2021 and returned Cole to the top of the Billboard 200. Four songs from the album—“My Life,” “Amari,” “Pride Is the Devil,” and “95 South”—debuted in the Hot 100’s top ten. His appearance on Drake’s “First Person Shooter” in 2023 then gave Cole his first number-one single on that chart.

Cole continued building the final phase of his catalog with the 2024 mixtape Might Delete Later, the return of his early mixtapes to major streaming services, and the four-song Birthday Blizzard ’26 EP. His seventh studio album, The Fall-Off, arrived on February 6, 2026. Structured as a twenty-four-track double album, it connected the hunger of his earliest work with reflections on fame, age, family, ambition, and the meaning of a career’s closing chapter.

Cole has earned two Grammy Awards, including Best Rap Song for “A Lot” with 21 Savage and Best Melodic Rap Performance for “All My Life” with Lil Durk. He has also received major honors from the BET Hip Hop Awards, Billboard Music Awards, and Soul Train Music Awards.

Beyond his own recordings, Cole has produced music for artists including Kendrick Lamar, Janet Jackson, Young Thug, Wale, and Mac Miller. He and longtime manager Ibrahim Hamad founded Dreamville Records, whose roster has included JID, Ari Lennox, Bas, EarthGang, Cozz, and Lute. The label’s collaborative album Revenge of the Dreamers III reached number one on the Billboard 200 and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album.
