# 10 – Me and Those Dreamin’ Eyes of Mine

The 10th song on our Top 10 D’Angelo Songs list is “Me and Those Dreamin’ Eyes of Mine” from the Brown Sugar album. “Me and Those Dreamin’ Eyes of Mine” was released in 1996. The song is about him having a crush on someone. He dreams about her all the time. He wishes that his fantasies could become reality. The narrator sighs every time he sees her because she is the most precious thing to him. His eyes are making him believe he can be with her. The narrator sees her walking down the street. He wishes he could have a chance to be with her. He would treat her like a queen. In his dreams, he treats her as if she’s the most important person in the world. If she knew how much he thought about her, things would be different.

This sultry song is about adoring someone from afar. We have all been in this position when we have had a crush on someone who doesn’t know about it. We have had visions of what it would be like if we were with the people we had crushes on. D’Angelo makes that feeling come to life. D’Angelo wrote a poetic song about unrequited love. He captured the feeling of unrequited love excellently. He created an interesting story that will hold your attention until the end of the song. The song is beautifully arranged and produced. The music is what neo soul is all about. D’Angelo did an excellent job with the musical arrangement. D’Angelo sings this in a falsetto. He is channeling his inner Marvin Gaye and Prince throughout the song. You can hear his influences in his voice. The harmony in this song is through the roof. D’Angelo wrote a can’t-miss song.

# 9 – Really Love

The ninth song on our Top D’Angelo Songs list is “Really Love” from the Black Messiah album. “Really Love” was released in 2014. This song expresses the love he has for the woman he loves. The song starts off with a spoken word intro by the woman he loves. She loves him but feels like he is too possessive. She thinks he is ruining her life. She doesn’t want to fight with him. She just wants to love him. She notices that he is jealous and possessive. He wanted to control her, but she was free.

The song takes a shift when he takes over. He talks about how he gets excited to hear her call his name. He loves the fact that she loves him gently. He falls in love with her anytime he sees her walking by him. He can be himself around her. He wants to please her when they are in bed together. Their bond grows every time they are intimate with each other. As the song progresses, things switch to the sensual part of the track. He talks about how she pleases him when they are intimate. He loves how she is patient with him.

This interesting song tells a story about a couple in love. It tells the story from two different sides. She expresses her love for him, but she thinks he is controlling. He expresses his love for her and how much he appreciates her. It was a different choice for D’Angelo to have the female character in the song feel as if she is a possession when he is talking about how much he loves her. It is a different take on love. The music has a soul and jazz sound with a mix of Latin. It has an incredible opening. The strings sway into a Spanish guitar and goes into his impeccable voice. He uses his falsetto vocals to the best of his ability. He sounds like Marvin Gaye in this song. This is the song that D’Angelo’s fans needed him to record. Everything about this song was worth the wait. He took a sabbatical from music when he recorded this album, but he sounds just as good as ever.

If she doubts him, he will make a believer out of her. He lets her know that she won’t have a reason to leave. He is going to please her so she will never want another man.

This song gives D’Angelo a chance to speed things up a little. This isn’t the fastest song on the radio but it is faster than our previous entries on the list. This song is a throwback to his r&b and hip-hop days. This song gives him a chance to be fun and flirty. D’Angelo, Method Man and Redman sing about their experiences in the club. Redman opens the song by talking about the obstacles he has overcome. He feels he can get anyone he wants. Method Man talks about meeting a pretty young thing in the club. He wants to please her physically.

D’Angelo wants to please the woman he met. He is convinced that he is the type of man she is looking for. He still includes romantic lyrics, but he gets a chance to show his raunchy side. This is the kind of song where you would need to get the kids out of the room. The guys are very descriptive on how they want to please the women. This song is a celebration of partying and pleasing the women they want. The song has a catchy chorus and an infectious beat that will stay in your head after it is done.

# 7 – Be Here – Raphael Saadiq ft. D’Angelo

The seventh song on our list is “Be Here” from Raphael Saadiq’s album Instant Vintage. “Be Here” was released in 2002. This song is about building a deep connection with the women they love. He wants her there with him. He wants her to be around in the morning so he can make breakfast with her.

He wants her to be ready for him when he wants to be intimate. He makes a joke about her trapping him when they are together. He lets her know he is a good man. He wants to show her what she has been missing. In the chorus, they are certain that women won’t want to leave once they are with them. They have more than just material things to offer. D’Angelo has sexy lyrics in the song. He talks about what he is going to be doing to her at night. He wants her to see what he has in store for her at night. He wants to have a family with her.

This is a romantic song about men wanting to please the women in their lives. This is the type of song that is in both of their wheelhouses. They both sing songs about wanting to please the women in their lives. They also do neo soul music so they were right at home with each other. The lyrics mean something if you want to be in a relationship. The music is simple and elegant which allows both artists to shine vocally. Raphael Saadiq and D’Angelo’s vocals shine in their own way. Their voices are smooth like butter. Their vocals go up and down throughout the song. Their harmonies are incredible. Their voices blend well with the music. This is a song you will want to hear often. It is an underrated gem that should have been a bigger hit than it was. This song is an earworm because it will stay in your head throughout the day.

# 6 – U Will Know

Black Men United (D’Angelo, Tevin Campbell, Brian McKnight, Gerald Levert, R Kelly, El DeBarge, Raphael Saadiq, Stokley, Joe, Aaron Hall, Keith Sweat, After 7, Joe Little III and Christopher Williams as well as others

“U Will Know” is from the Jason’s Lyric soundtrack. “U Will Know” was released in 1994. This is an uplifting song about sticking together no matter what. They want people to stand up for unity, justice and peace. No matter what life throws at you, you have to keep pushing to be the best person you can be. Dreams aren’t easy to achieve but you must stick with them if you want them to come true. The group tells you that you should act like a man. When life gets tough, you have to go by the things you were taught. They want you to stand up tall so you won’t fall for anything. They talk about having visions of fame when they were young. The world was painful and their dreams left them. They got stronger because they were getting tired of the pain. They picked up the pieces and pursued their dream.

This is a timely song because of what is going on in the world today. This song is written about African American men, but people of all races can get something out of it. This is a positive message about standing up for what you want. This is a subject that will never get old. Most of the guys in this supergroup don’t always work with each other so this song was a chance to hear the r&b stars working on one song.

This is a breathtaking song that D’Angelo and his brother Luther Archer wrote. The song represents unity and sticking together. The artists in this song sound amazing together. They were meant to sing together. There was a lot of talent in this song. Everyone gets a chance to shine in the song despite how many people are singing in it. Everyone nailed their parts. We don’t hear songs like this often, so they made magic happen. There should be more songs like this on the radio.

This is a breezy song about being with the person you love. D’Angelo took a chance covering this song since it was a hit for Smokey Robinson, but he did the song justice. Smokey Robinson would be proud of the job he did with the song. D’Angelo made the song his own by adding his flair to it. D’Angelo changed the melody and the beat. This version is a little faster than the original version.

D’Angelo tries to capture Smokey Robinson’s essence when he sings the song. It may be D’Angelo’s way of paying homage to the Motown legend. D’Angelo adds runs that weren’t in the original version. D’Angelo’s vocals are stacked which makes it sound as if he has a double throughout the song. The original version is a masterpiece, but D’Angelo does an incredible version of the song. D’Angelo’s version may not make you forget about the original one, but this version is worth checking out.
