Our top 10 Marillion Songs list takes a look at a band that can be easily argued is one of the most popular progressive rock bands to flourish during the second wave of progressive rock that began in the 1980’s and has continued to the present day. However, the origins of the band Marillion began in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, England, in the year 1979. It would be a few years before the band would release their first album. That album was entitled Script for a Jester’s Tear. The album was issued in 1983. The record was very successful for a debut album, although the band had been working for years and developing a large following. The band on their debut album featured Mick Pointer on drums, Steve Rothery on guitars, Fish on lead vocals, lyrics, percussion, and backing vocals, and Mark Kelly on keyboards.

The band released their second album, entitled Fugazi, in 1984 and then enjoyed tremendous success with their third album, entitled Misplaced Childhood, in 1985. The band’s next album, Clutching At Straws, released in 1987, continued the band’s international success on both economic and artistic fronts.

Marillion ended their 1980’s period with the album Seasons End. The band’s lead singer, Fish, had already left, and their new vocalist, Steve Hogarth, would begin a career with the band that still finds him in the lead vocal chair in 2018.

From 1983 to 2016, the band Marillion released eighteen studio albums. Marillion has also released nine live albums and thirty-six singles. They have remained together longer than most progressive rock bands and currently stand as one of the most loved progressive rock groups ever, both internationally and especially in Europe. We have attempted to define some of their best material throughout their career, but we found ourselves drawn very much to the music of their 1980s period.

The Marillion song “This Strange Engine” was released on the album of the same name in 1997.

# 8 – Interior Lulu

In 1999, the band Marillion released an album entitled marillion.com. The title was a reference to the band’s future as an independent band free of major-label contracts. From the great album Marillion.com, we have always loved the track “Interior Lulu.”

# 4 – Garden Party

Script for a Jester’s Tear was Marillion’s debut album, released in 1985. It is also one of our favorite Marillion album covers. The single “Garden Party” was a top 20 hit in the United Kingdom in 1983.

# 3 – Blind Curve

The second song on this Top 10 Marillion songs list from the album Misplaced Children is the track “Blind Curve.” The song “Blind Curve” was a nine-minute suite in five sections.

The song “Neverland” was released on the band’s Marbles album. The album was released in 2004.

# 1 – The Invisible Man

The band’s Marbles album, released in 2004, quickly became one of their most loved albums. While most of this top 10 Marillion songs list focuses on the 80’s, the top 2 spots are taken by tracks from their great 2004 album, Marbles.
