# 10 – Boys – Britney Spears

The first song on our Top 10 Neptunes Songs list is “Boys” by Britney Spears. The song is from her Britney album. The song has a pop and r&b sound. The seductive song is about a woman talking about a romantic interest. She sees him for the first time on the dance floor. She wants him to be with her. The Neptunes switched things up with this track. Men are usually the ones who pursue women on the dance floor. They decided to change things up and have a woman go after the man. Britney Spears wants to take him from his “boys” so she could see what he could do with her. Britney Spears wants to be the one in control of how they get together.

Britney Spears sounds confident and seductive on this track. The Neptunes brought out the sassiness in her. She needed that type of spice to pull off going after a man in a club. Britney Spears had a good girl image when she recorded this song. The Neptunes track helped shatter that image. She was able to be a vixen on the track. The production was very well done on this song. The music is infectious. The Neptunes knew what they were doing when they created this music. The synths and guitar riffs are out of this world.

The Neptunes tried to recreate Vanity 6’s song “Nasty Girl” with Britney Spears’ song. This is a track that Janet Jackson could have recorded as well. Britney Spears uses Janet Jackson’s song titles “Nasty’ and “Control” throughout the track. They produced a remix to the track called “The Co-Ed Remix.” Pharrell Willams responds to Britney Spears on that track. The song is slightly different from the original version, but it’s just as good.

# 9 – Work It Out – Beyonce

The next song on our Top 10 Neptunes Songs list is “Work It Out” by Beyonce. The song is from the Austin Powers in Gold Member album. The song has an r&b and funk beat. The confident song is about her character in the movie. She plays Foxy in the movie and her character is sassy and confident. This is a fun song that was for the movie. This is not the song you listen to if you are looking for a deep and meaningful song. Foxy wants to seduce Austin in the song. If you take out the references to Austin Powers, it’s Beyonce talking about seducing a man.

The song gave Beyonce a chance to show her gritty and sultry side. She sings the song with a lot of grit and soul. She’s channeling her inner Tina Turner and Aretha Franklin. The Neptunes wanted to write a song that was a tribute to James Brown. It explains the way the music is arranged. You can hear it in the music that the Neptunes wanted to recreate James Brown’s musical sound. They don’t usually produce songs with a funk edge so this one stands out among their other songs. Chad Hugo does an amazing job playing the saxophone. It’s one of the highlights in the music. The drumbeat is smoking hot.

# 8 – Hit the Freeway – Toni Braxton ft. Loon

The saucy song is by Toni Braxton ft. Loon. The song is from the More Than a Woman album. It has an r&b and hip-hop beat. The sassy song is about a woman who is dealing with an ex that wants to get back together with her. She doesn’t want to be with him anymore so she wants him to hit the road. She has no interest in being back with him. She has moved on with her life and wants him to do the same thing. Toni Braxton was known for singing r&b and pop tracks that were written by LaFace, Diane Warren and David Foster. This song gave her a chance to work with The Neptunes. She wanted to record a hip-hop song. She wanted to do something different musically.

As soon as you hear it, you know this is a Neptunes song. There’s no mistaking their unique sound. The thumping drums drive the music. The synths are incredible. This is definitely a different sound for Toni Braxton. The Neptunes took her out of her comfort zone without making her lose credibility. She was able to maintain her sound while doing something different. The song still has r&b elements in it, but she gets her chance to do a hip-hop song. Her vocals are good on the track. She sings in her upper register. Fans of Toni Braxton know that she can sing deeply if she wanted to do it. She chose not to sing that low on the song. Some of the lyrics re hard to understand because they sound garbled, but she sounds incredible. This is an underrated song because it’s not one of her biggest hits, but the song is different for her.

# 7 – Senorita – Justin Timberlake

The flirty song is by Justin Timberlake. The single is from the Justified album. The song has r&b beat. The sultry song is about a man who wants to get a woman’s attention. Songs like this are the tracks he usually sings. He usually sings about pursuing a woman. This song is on the same level as the song Justin Timberlake recorded with NSYNC called “Girlfriend.” Both songs are about a man wanting to be with a woman. This track was one of the many collaborations The Neptunes did with Justin Timberlake. This track sounds a little different from the songs the Neptunes write and produce for other artists.

The Neptunes created a Latin and r&b sound for this song. The music sounds excellent. It has a great mix of Latin and r&b music. This is the type of song you can listen to when you are chilling out. It has a cool groove that’s perfect for the summer. Justin Timberlake and the Neptunes wanted to create a sound that was similar to Stevie Wonder’s music. They came as close to it as they could without copying it.

The melody is similar to what Stevie Wonder produced in the past. The melody is a slowed-down version of Justin Timberlake’s other track “Rock Your Body.” If you listen to the song closely, you might notice how it sounds similar to it. Justin Timberlake is channeling his inner Michael Jackson on this track. He sings in falsetto the same way Michael Jackson did. Pharrell Willams appears on the track as well. He provides the background vocals. The bridge is a highlight of the song. It gives the song something special.

# 6 – Caught Out There – Kelis

The anthemic song is by Kelis is from her Kaleidoscope album. The track has an r&b beat. The angry song is about a woman who is sick of how her man treats her. He treats her badly and cheats on her. She is very upset with him because she gave him everything she had and he betrayed her. She expresses how much she hates him with the standout quote “I hate you so much right now.” She is very bitter and she wants the world to know. This is the perfect women’s anthem. There are lots of women who wish they could say the same thing when people they love scorn them. How many times have you wished you could just scream out how much you hate the person who hurt you?

It’s surprising that the Neptunes would write a man-bashing song like this one. Kelis and the Neptunes created a terrific song together. They were a match made in heaven. The cathartic lyrics of the song will help you ease your anger. You will get a chance to get your anger out at the person who hurt you. This song describes pain perfectly. She talks about what he did to her and then she goes off and says how much she hates him. This song wasn’t a big of a hit as “Milkshake,” but it has a deeper meaning.

The song gets overshadowed by “Milkshake,” but it was a hit as well. The music sounds like something The Neptunes would create. The song was recorded in the 90s, but it still sounds fresh today. The beat is drum-driven instead of guitar-driven. Kelis sings the song with a lot of hate in her voice. You can tell she’s extremely angry while she’s singing the lyrics. It will be impossible not to sing along with her as she talks about how much she hates her man. If you are dealing with a cheating mate, you will definitely want to sing along with her.

# 5 – Drop It Like It’s Hot – Snoop Dogg ft. Pharrell Williams

The next song on our Top 10 Neptunes Songs list is “Drop It Like It’s Hot” by Snoop Dogg featuring Pharrell Willams. The bouncy song is from the R&G (Rhythm & Gangsta) The Masterpiece . The song is about getting down and dancing. He wants you to dance no matter what anyone tells you. “Drop it like it’s hot” is an urban term that became mainstream once Snoop Dogg and Pharrell Willams made the song a hit. In this song, the phrase is used in a variety of ways. If people have an attitude with you, he wants you to forget about them and take care of them. If the police give you an attitude, he wants you to park it like it’s hot. This song has more than one meaning so you can take away from it what you wish. This song may not be relatable to people outside of the urban community, but they need to know that the song exists.

Snoop Dogg was having trouble reaching the mainstream audience at a point. He didn’t have too many pop hits until this song was released. This track put him back on the charts. The song may come off like they are bragging if you listen to the lyrics. This could be overlooked because the song is hot. The music is energetic. The song is stripped down and focuses on the synths and popping sounds. It’s music you can “drop it like it’s hot” to. The Neptunes made the right call by keeping the music simple. Snoop Dogg’s voice isn’t that loud so it was better not to have a lot of music in the song.

# 4 – Like I Love You – Justin Timberlake ft. Clipse

The seductive song is by Justin Timberlake ft. Clipse from his Justified album. The track has an r&b beat. The playful song is about a man who wants to be with a woman. He wants to make her happy. The theme of the song is similar to “Boys” and “Senorita.” He wants to pursue someone the same way as it’s written in the other songs. Justin Timberlake left NSYNC and this was the single that was released after he left the group. This song could have made him or broke him. It had to be something to get people talking so he enlisted the Neptunes to help create his new sound. He worked with The Neptunes during his NSYNC days so it wasn’t hard to rely on them with this album.

The song wasn’t a breakout hit when it was first released. It’s hard to believe because this is very radio friendly. People just weren’t ready to hear Justin Timberlake on his own yet. Once the song was out, people were starting to feel it. We can see why because this song is fantastic. The Neptunes did an amazing job on the production. They knew the right music to create to grab your attention. The song mostly features the guitar. The drumbeat is on point as well. This track was special because Justin Timberlake never recorded anything like this song. It has a futuristic beat and that makes the song stand out. Justin Timberlake’s vocals will give you Michael Jackson vibes. He sounds very similar to Michael Jackson when he sings in falsetto. It’s easy to compare Justin Timberlake’s vocals to Michael Jackson because he sings like him.

# 3 – Excuse Me Miss – Jay-Z ft. Pharrell Williams

The flirtatious song by Jay-Z ft. Pharrell Willams is from his The Blueprint 2: The Gift & the Curse. The song has a hip-hip sound. The enticing song is about him trying to come on to a girl. He has everything he could want in life, but the one thing that’s missing is true love. He wants to have a lady in his life. This song could be a tribute to Beyonce because he was rumored to be dating her at the time. It’s a nice change to hear a rapper talking about being mesmerized by a lady. A lot of rappers exploit women in their songs so it was a nice change to hear one talking about wanting to get to know the woman.

This song features two samples. The song samples Luther Vandross’ “Take You Out” and The Notorious B.I.G.’s “Big Poppa.” They seem like songs that would never go hand and hand together. The Neptunes made it possible for the songs to work to create Jay-Z’s sound. The beat is laid back. You can bop your head to the song. It’s something you can hear playing in the clubs. You could also listen to it at cookouts during the summer.

Once this song is playing, the party has started. Jay-Z’s flow is like no other rapper out there. His vibe is slowed down and chill. You can get a chance to understand what he’s saying. The lyrics may not make sense, but he sounds cool saying it. Pharrell Willams also appears in the song. He sings the hook and ad libs. His vocals are good. He sings in falsetto throughout the song. Jay-Z also takes his turn at singing. He should probably stick to rapping because he’s not exactly a singer.

# 2 – Hot in Here by Nelly

The sexy song is by Nelly. The song is featured on his Nellyville album. The song has a hip-hop beat. The braggadocios song is about him partying and being intimate in the club. He talks about being famous and having a luxurious lifestyle. He wants women to take their clothes off because it’s hot in the club. This is the type of song we’re used to hearing from rappers. Nelly exploits women in this song. He wants them to take off their clothes. This isn’t a song most of us can relate to because we don’t all have his lifestyle. He may sound arrogant while he’s talking about what he has, but he doesn’t sound unlikable.

This track is for the grown and sexy. He wants women to take their clothes off and dance provocatively. He seems to love women showing their bodies. He really seems to love their lower regions. He makes a lot of references to females’ lower regions. The Neptunes production is fire. The musical arrangement is engaging and will demand your attention. It will make you want to follow Nelly’s order to “get up on the dance floor.” We challenge you to listen to this song and not move around to it.

You might lose the challenge because it’s impossible to sit still listening to this track. The song was a smash hit for Nelly and it’s easy to see why. Everything about the song works. The track has the right beat to get you moving. Nelly’s flow is on point. You can rhyme along with him because he doesn’t rap too fast. He’s rapping and singing so you get the best of both worlds.

# 1 – Milkshake – Kelis

The number one song on our Top 10 Neptunes Songs list is “Milkshake” by Kelis. The song is from her Tasty album. The song has an r&b beat. The confident song is about a woman who dances seductively and gets the attention of the guys in the club. She talks metaphorically about her body being a milkshake. You can’t get more creative than that. People don’t usually refer to their bodies as milkshakes. The Neptunes were inspired to write this song because of Brazilian woman. They love the shapes of their bodies. If you remember, we included this song on our Top 10 Pharrell Willams Songs list. We couldn’t do a list about the Neptunes and not include it on here.

The song became such a big hit that it was popular in mainstream culture. The song was used in several movies and TV shows. The infectious beat will capture your soul as soon as it starts. Everything about the music is flawless. The Neptunes did their thing on this track. The guitar, synths and drums are the focus on this track. This song is perfect to hear in the club or if you are at home. If you feel like dancing, you can put this song on and get moving. The Neptunes arranged the music in such a way that you are hypnotized.

It might make it hard to focus on her lyrics because the music is so good. Speaking of her lyrics, Kelis sings the song with a lot of confidence. You have to have the confidence to sing something like this. She might sound cocky talking about being able to get men to come to her. She also wants to charge people to teach them to be like her. She is proud of what she has to offer. She sings the song with the same passion as she does with “Caught Out There.” This is the track that helped launch Kelis’ career. The song overshadowed the album. This song will follow her throughout her career.
