10 Essential Songs From The Firm takes a listen back to a short-lived band that featured two rock and roll icons. If there is one thing we know about classic rock history, it’s the rock and roll icons. Those Rock ‘n’ roll legends would be Paul Rodgers of Bad Company, Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin, and Chris Slade of AC/DC, Manfred Mann, and so many other classic rock acts. Both Paul Rodgers and Jimmy Page had celebrated amazing rock ‘n’ roll careers in their former bands. They were friends as Paul Rodgers’ band Bad Company was signed to Led Zeppelin’s Swan Songs label. Jimmy Page tried forming another supergroup a few years earlier, called XYZ, with members of Yes. However, that project fell apart before it even started.

Robert Plant had been invited to sing lead, but declined after one rehearsal. Eventually, Paul Rogers and Jimmy Page started writing songs together. They decided to form a group that could tour, have fun, and play new music without relying on the old material from Led Zeppelin and Bad Company. That’s precisely what they did.

The Firm only did it for two albums, but that seemed to be the initial plan. We wish they had recorded more music because many fans loved the band The Firm. They were not a critic’s favorite, but who cares? Led Zeppelin fans, Bad Company fans, and rock ‘n’ roll fans generally accepted the group and enjoyed their material. Although the band released only two albums, we’ll present ten of our favorite songs from those records. Why not? They are a part of classic rock history

# 10 – Midnight Moonlight

We open our top 10 songs from The Firm list with the fantastic song “Midnight Moonlight.” We love Jimmy Page’s opening acoustic guitar riff. It sounds familiar, and it was just so wonderful to hear that Jimmy Page acoustic guitar sound. The song was released on the 1985 album The Firm. It was the album’s closing track. Jimmy Page and Paul Rogers wrote the song.

# 9 – Cadillac

I love how this one opens with that excellent drum groove and killer bass riff. This is rock and roll, my friends. Jimmy’s guitar sounds as evil and scary as it can get. It’s so spellbinding. Continuing with our essential Firm songs list, we listen to the great song “Cadillac.” The song was released on the album entitled Mean Business. The album was released in 1986.

With a little bit of a crunge-style guitar sound, we fell in love with this one immediately. # 7 – Tear Down The Walls

How about a little “Nobody’s Fault But Mine” style riff to open this one up? Paul Rogers brings his iconic Bad Company style vocals to this one as the legends came up with a stunning rock and roll tune that should have been much bigger than it ever was. In the number seven position on our top 10 The Firm songs list is the song entitled “Tear Down The Walls.” The song “Tear Down The Walls” was released on the album entitled Mean Business. The album was released in 1986.

# 6 – Satisfaction Guaranteed

Landing in the number six spot on our top 10 songs list, we present the song “Satisfaction Guaranteed.” The song was released on the album entitled The Firm. The album was released in 1985. The song “Satisfaction Guaranteed” was composed by Jimmy Page and Paul Rogers. This one sounds a little more Bad Company than Led Zeppelin. We will take it either way.

# 5 – Live in Peace

At the halfway point on our Firm list is the breathtaking song entitled “Live In Peace.” We love the minor key opening piano riff on this one. The strings and guitars are as dramatic as they can get in this very cinematic song. The song “Live In Peace” was released on the album entitled Mean Business. The album was released in 1986.

# 4 – The Closer

At number four on our top 10 songs from The Firm list, we present the song “Closer.” This heavy Led Zeppelin-sounding track was the opening song on the band’s first album. Much of The Firm material reminded us of the fabulous Led Zeppelin Houses Of The Holy album in how Jimmy Page approached his guitar parts. The song was released on the album entitled The Firm. The album was released in 1985.

# 3 – Fortune Hunter

If there is one Firm song that many fans will remember, it is the killer cut “Fortune Hunter.” This one stands as one of the band’s most popular songs. We could listen to those Jimmy Page guitar riffs like this one all day long. The song “Fortune Hunter,” was released on the album entitled Mean Business. The album was released in 1986.

Just off the top spot on our top 10 songs list, we celebrate the song entitled “All The King’s Horses.” The song was released on the album entitled Mean Business. The album was released in 1986. It was the first single released from the album. The song “All The King’s Horses” was a hit on the US Billboard Rock Charts, hitting number one.

# 1 – Radioactive

We close out our top 10 The Firm songs list with the song entitled “Radioactive.” This was by far the band’s most successful commercial release. This is so much Led Zeppelin meets Bad Company. The video shows Jimmy Page playing that famous double-neck red electric guitar. That guitar lick is to die for. Paul Rodgers knocks it out of the park. Chris Slade’s drumbeat is simply jaw-dropping. This is just so cool.

The song “Radioactive” was released on the album entitled The Firm. The album was released in 1985. It was the first single released from the album. The song hit the US Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number twenty-eight. However, the song did much better on the US Billboard Rock Charts, reaching number one. In the United Kingdom, the song reached number seventy-six, marking The Firm’s only charted single in the Country. Yet, in the States, it hit number one. Who loves ya, Jimmy?
