Born in Belgrade, Serbia in 1976, Ana Popović was introduced to blues music by Milton Popović, her father. Ana Popović gained guitar skills after practicing, starting some professional playing at age fifteen. She later went on to form a four-piece rhythm and blues band under the moniker Hush.

However, Hush was not long-lived with the outfit disbanding soon as Ana Popović flew to the Netherlands for more music studies in 1998. The band only issued one studio album entitled HometownHometown featured a number of original songs, with almost half of the album featuring covers of songs originally issued by Buddy Guy, Ike Turner, Blind Willie McTell, Magic Sam, Albert Jackson Jr., Kim Wilson, and Huey P. Meaux.

Ana Popović’s Solo Career and Albums

Ana Popović marked the launch of her solo career with the release of her debut studio album, Hush! in January 2001. The album was issued through Ruf Records with the production work handled by Jim Gaines. Gaines is a renowned producer whose previous works included albums by John Lee Hooker, Carlos Santana, and Alexis Korner.

Hush! also featured Bernard Allison, the son of the legendary blues artist Luther Allison. “Bring Your Fine Self Home” and “Love Fever” are some of the remarkable releases from the album.
