Foxy Brown is a popular female rapper who was considered one of the best selling female rappers of all time. She ruled the 90s with her brassy style. She was often compared to Lil’ Kim because they have similar styles in music. She proved that she could be successful in a male dominated genre. She made it possible for other female MCs to have a career in rap. She’s one of the first female artists to have an album in the Guinness Book of Records. Our Top 10 Foxy Brown Songs list will feature her best songs.
# 10 – Candy ft. Kelis
The first song on our Top 10 Foxy Brown Songs list is “Candy” featuring Kelis. The song has a dance, pop and r&b beat. The provocative song is about oral sex. This song is self-explanatory. The track is not for young listeners. She is very detailed about what she wants done to her sexually. This song is for the grown ups. You will have to get the kids out of the room in order to really enjoy this track. Women who enjoy that particular sexual pleasure will enjoy listening to this track. Men who enjoy giving it will also like listening to the song.
“Candy” is one of the most provocative songs on this album, which made it stand out from the others. This song gives Foxy Brown a chance to explore her sexual side. Male rappers do the same thing and no one bats an eye at it. Women are looked at funny when they want to express their sexuality. She showed she was going to break the rules and she did it. The Neptunes helped Foxy Brown write this track.
They proved that they work well together. They created a tune that had crossover appeal since it has a pop beat with rapping in it. Foxy Brown’s rhymes are on point. She was able to do her thing over the pop beat. She rhymes similar to Eve. Kelis joins Foxy Brown on the chorus. She sings the catchy chorus about being “candy.” Kelis has already worked with The Neptunes so it’s not a surprise that she was able to handle the chorus of the song. Fans may not have accepted this song the way they should have, but it’s worth checking out.
# 9 – I Can’t ft. Total
The next song on our Top 10 Foxy Brown Songs list is “I Can’t” ft. Total. This song is from the album Chyna Doll. The song has a hip-hop beat. The anthemic song is about her warning a woman about being played by a man. He promised to make her his wife, but he didn’t do it. He “loved her and left her.” This song could be a warning to Foxy Brown. She wants the man she rhymes about to want to be with her. She can’t trust him so she wanted him to prove himself to her. We aren’t sure if she is rapping about herself or about another female. Either way, the message is still the same. If he wants to be with her, he has to commit. She doesn’t stray away from her raunchy lyrics.
Foxy Brown uses the Wham! song “Everything She Wants” as the sample for the track. You would never think Foxy Brown would sample a song by Wham!, but it works perfectly. The sample helps make the song catchy and irresistible. The music is great. You will be on the dance floor in no time. Foxy Brown’s rhymes are smooth like butter. Her flows are out of this world. She sounds very confident on this song. You need confidence to talk about using your body to get what you want. You can rhyme along with her. She is easy to follow along with as she raps. She sounds similar to Lil’ Kim on this track. Total sounds great providing the chorus. The chorus is infectious. It will stay in your head for a long time.
# 8 – Hot Spot
The sassy song is from the Chyna Doll album. The song has a hip-hop beat. The cocky song is about her success in the genre. She raps about everything that she has. The “hot spot” is a club. She sounds like a male rapper talking about the things that she has. She raps about the bling she has as well has having platinum records. The song is almost a novelty song because it’s not really about anything. This isn’t a song that you would take seriously. If you’re not in the music business, you won’t be able to relate to these lyrics. You might find yourself rolling your eyes at this track because she’s rapping about things you couldn’t relate to.
The track won’t teach you anything about her. It’s simply a song to enjoy and have fun listening to. The beat is on point. It’s perfect for dancing in the “hot spot.” The beat is similar to what Jay-Z would use for his track. If you listen carefully, it sounds similar to “Can I Get A.” Jay-Z and Irv Gotti helped write this track with Foxy Brown so we aren’t surprised that some of his influence is on the track. Foxy Brown raps with the right amount of arrogance to pull this track off. You can’t be modest rapping about being the best out there. She doesn’t have any guest stars on this track so you get the chance to just enjoy Foxy Brown rapping. Our minor complaint is that the song needs a catchy chorus to grab you. Other than that, the song is fine.
# 7 – Oh Yeah ft. Spragga Benz
The party song is from the Broken Silence album. The song has a hip-hop, dancehall and reggae beat. The boastful song is about how she’s the best female rapper in the game. She talks about critics saying that she’s too pretty to rap “this gritty.” They doubt her ability to get down and dirty with the other rappers. She is here to tell them that they are wrong. She wants everyone to know that she’s proud of her heritage. She doesn’t want to hold anything back while she’s rapping. She wants her naysayers to know that she is here to stay and nobody can beat her.
Foxy Brown deserves a shout out for incorporating her Trinidadian heritage into the song. She isn’t ashamed of who she is and she praises her heritage in the song. She considers herself an icon and one of the best in the game. The song helped create the dancehall and hip-hop movement during the 2000s era. The music will give you Trinidadian vibes and that definitely sets this song apart from other hip-hop jams. The music will command you to move around when you hear it. You can’t sit still because the beat will move you. Foxy Brown proves why she’s one of the best MCs in the game. She spits like she wants everyone to take notice of her. Spragga Benz was Foxy Brown’s boyfriend at the time and appears in the song. If you are in the mood to dance or workout, you can put this track on and get moving.
# 6 – Come Fly With Me ft. Sizzla
The raunchy song is from the Black Roses album. The song has a dirty rap and reggae beat. The dirty song is about a couple who have sex with each other. Foxy Brown and Sizzla get down and dirty talking about having sex. They are pretty graphic about it. They explain how much they want each other in great detail. You wouldn’t think they would go there, but they aren’t shy about their sexuality. They enjoy putting it out there and we’re here for it. Men rap about having sex all of the time so it makes sense that a female wanted to get on board with the subject. She isn’t afraid to match up with the men when it comes to sex. This song might be offensive to people, but this is a track we need. It gives the ladies a chance to express their sexuality without looking like tramps.
The music is different. You won’t expect this beat to be with a hip-hop song. The guitar riff gives the song a rock and reggae edge. You might find yourself playing air guitar with this song. The music may take away from the language that’s being used on the track. They use profanity as you would expect in rap music. There’s no taking her skills away from her. Foxy Brown is a beast when it comes to rhyming. She is a natural when she steps to the mic. She may not have that many albums out, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that she is an excellent lyricist and rapper. Please note that you will hear a lot of moaning along with cursing in the song. If you can get past the raunchy lyrics, this song is for you.
# 5 – Always Be My (Sunshine) – Jay Z ft. Foxy Brown and Babyface
The next song on our Top 10 Foxy Brown Songs list is “Always Be My (Sunshine).” The song appears on Jay Z’s album “In My Lifetime, Vol.1.” The song has an East Coast hip-hop beat. The romantic song is about a man who wants a woman to be his sunshine. This is different because people in the hip-hop community don’t always sing tribute songs to women. Women are usually objectified in their song. It’s a refreshing change to hear a rapper singing a positive song about the woman he loves. It helps how Jay-Z has one of the Kings of Romance singing the hook of the track.
This track gave Jay-Z a chance to veer away from gangster rap to crossover rap music. This underrated song is a classic. If you read our Top 100 Best Hip-Hop Songs of the 90s list, than you know this song is making another appearance. The song includes Alexander O’Neal’s classic slow jam “Sunshine.” The sample fits perfectly with this jam. Babyface sings the chorus of the song. He sings the sample from “Sunshine.” He makes you believe in romance because he sings about it all of the time. Jay-Z’s rhymes are great as usual. He may be hard to understand, but his flow is top notch. Foxy Brown is the only female on the track and she isn’t intimidated at all. She is at the top of her game even though her part is small on the song.
# 4 – Big Bad Mama ft. Dru Hill
The confident song is from the Ill Na Na album and the How to be a Player Soundtrack. The song has a hip-hop beat. The energetic song is about how bad she is. In the song, she is the baddest woman in the game. No one can touch her. She thinks she’s a “big bad mama.” She raps with enough sass and attitude that’s needed to pull the song off. She isn’t bashful about letting the world know that she’s the best in the game. She kept the track sexy and cute. She sounds empowered talking about how good she is. This song also made an appearance on our Top 100 Best Hip-Hop Songs of the 90s list
“Big Bad Mama” features the sample of Carl Cartlon’s “She’s a Bad Mama Jama. The sample is absolutely flawless and works with the track. The music from the sample is updated to fit with the 90s style. Dru Hill sings the chorus of the song. Sisqo’s vocals are fantastic. He sounds extremely soulful singing the chorus. He makes you want to sing along with him. He proved why he was the frontman of Dru Hill. Let’s get back to Foxy Brown. She rhymes in time with the beat. Her phrasing is on point with this song. She rhymes slow enough that you can rap along with her. This track is one of the reasons why she’s a legend today.
# 3 – Get Me Home ft. Blackstreet
The classic song is on the album Ill Na Na. The song has an r&b and hip-hop beat. The flirty song is about a woman wanting a man she met to take her home. She flirts with the guy and wants him to take her home with him. She exudes the right amount of sexiness on the track to pull off going home with the guy. Foxy Brown was a teenager when she recorded this song. She sounds like she was in the game for a long time. You could easily forget that she was making her debut with this song. This was the perfect track to introduce her to the world.
The song features the sample of Eugene Wilde’s “Gotta Get You Home with Me Tonight.” The sample gives the song a cool r&b vibe. Speaking cool r&b, she has Blackstreet on the track. They are one of the coolest r&b groups in the game. They help give her song the boost it needs to give her crossover appeal. They were popular when she made her debut so having them on her track helped her out a lot. Their vocals are phenomenal on the track. Foxy Brown’s rhymes are off the chain. Once again it’s hard to believe that she is only a teenager on this song. She sounds like the legend that she is on this track.
# 2 –Touch Me Tease Me Case ft. Foxy Brown and Mary J Blige
The seductive song is from Case’s album of the same name and the Nutty Professor Soundtrack. The song has an r&b and hip-hop beat. The sexy song is about a man who is into a woman’s sexual nature. He’s very attracted to her and will do anything to be able to seduce her. He wants to touch and tease her. This song doesn’t have to just apply to the character in the movie. It can apply to listeners as well. If you want to seduce a woman or a man, this track might do the trick for you. You can put this song on and you may get your way.
Foxy Brown was a teenager when she recorded her rhymes for Case’s song. She sounds like she was in the game for years. She is a little young for a song like this, but her attitude helped pull it off. You will have to overlook the fact that she’s a a little young to rap on this song. If you can do that, you will enjoy her verse on the track. She was the only rapper on a song with two r&b artists, but she wasn’t out of place. The beat is tight. It will hook you as soon as it starts. It sounds like it’s computer generated, but you can still enjoy it. Case and Mary J Blige are incredible on this track. They brought the soul to the track. This trio should work together on another song. They worked so well together.
# 1 – I’ll Be ft. Jay Z
The number one song on our Top 10 Foxy Brown Song list is “I’ll Be.” The song is from the album Ill Na Na. The song has an r&b and hip-hop beat. The sultry song is about sex and money. They trade barbs about having sex with each other. They are the original Bonnie and Clyde. The dynamic duo are back again on this track. Foxy Brown and Jay-Z are the perfect tag team. They work well together. He was very instrumental in the beginning of her career. He helped her career when she got started. Things went sour for them and they didn’t work together again after he helped launch her career.
This song features the sample from Rene and Angela’s “I’ll Be Good.” The sample is smoking hot. The beat is banging. You will be dancing until the song is over. They rhyme in time with the beat and that makes their lyrics stand out even more. She sounds hardcore considering she was a new rapper at the time of this release. Jay-Z allowed her the room to shine on this song. He was around longer than her and could have easily taken over the track. He humbled himself and allowed her to shine. She shined bright like a diamond on this track. She did everything right. This song would go on to be one of her biggest hit singles.
