Classic Rock fans will be happy to hear that the music of David Bowie as well as many other classic rock favorites leading the way in this year’s Record Store Day releases. The grand Record Store Day started back in 2007 when a series of independently owned record stores got together with record companies in order to celebrate a one day release of vinyl records and cds that are only released on Record Store Day in very limited runs. Only independent stores are allowed to participate in Record Store Day.
No publicly traded companies like Best Buy or FYE are allowed to participate. Record Store Day was an idea to help drive people into mom and pop record stores to help them survive in a business that had been decimated by streaming services. It has been incredibly successful with long lines forming at independent record and cd stores each year on Record Store Day.
All styles of music are released on Record Store Day. The idea is to get people back in the records stores while also introducing younger people to independent shops possibly for the first time. We all know the addiction of going to record stores, especially independent record stores where you get to know the owners and workers as it also becomes a fun social experience.
Record Store Day is Saturday April 23 2022
